Cal Fire Training Burn At Lake McClure Fireworks Launch Point

MARIPOSA — The Cal Fire Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit (MMU) in cooperation with Merced Irrigation District (MID) is scheduled to conduct a vegetation management training burn during the week of June 24 at Lake McClure.

The training will consist of approximately 45 acres of grass being burned. Cal Fire says the purpose of the burn is fuel reduction to create a safe area at and around the peninsula designated for the launch point of fireworks. Smoke may be visible locally.

Cal Fire will also use this as a training opportunity to continue improving wildland firefighting tactics under a controlled environment.

According to an online post by the Merced Irrigation District, a fireworks display will be held at Lake McClure on Saturday, June 29.
