OAKHURST – Signups for Yosemite Badgers Youth Football take place this Saturday, July 27, from 9 to 11 a.m. at four different locations around the mountain area: Coarsegold Market, Hillside Market in Yosemite Lakes Park, and at Vons and Raley’s in Oakhurst.
Yosemite Badgers Youth Football has four teams from Mighty Mites to Seniors, allowing participation for kids from ages 6 through 14.
There are no weight limits on any division and the teams participate in the “highly competitive” Tri-County football league, according to Coach Erik Peterson.
“We teach the fundamentals of the game in a fun atmosphere where every athlete gets to compete on the field,” continues Peterson. “We also teach the same offense and defense that Yosemite High School (YHS) runs, thus getting them ready for high school.”
All coaches are USA Football certified and the senior team benefits by having two Varsity coaches with over 60 years high school coaching experience between them. Six YHS senior football players will also be helping out on all four levels, as part of the Senior Projects which promote community service.
The cost for Yosemite Badger Youth Football is $100 and includes registration and equipment along with a special “Badger Buddy” bonus.
“A Badger Buddy gets into all YHS home football games free and receives a free hot dog and Coke at the game,” says Peterson.
In order to signup, students will need to provide a completed registration packet, a copy of their birth certificate, a signed physical and a check for the $100 fee. The completed registration packet can be brought along to the first day of practice.
Kids who still need a physical can have parents call Dr. James Starnes at 559 642-2225; the cost for a physical with Dr. Starnes is $25 and his office is located at 49346 Road 426, Suite 3.
Practice and conditioning starts Aug. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the YHS football field.
