ArtsFest Celebration

COUNTY – Families are invited to attend the second annual Madera County ArtsFest on Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. This free event will promote art in Madera County in a carnival-type atmosphere.

Children will be able to participate in free hands-on art activities consisting of decorating flower pots, creating collages, painting rocks and necklaces and drawing chalk murals.

Madera County Schools Foundation and Madera County Office of Education are hosting the event at Madera County Office of Education.

The event will feature live art demonstrations and an outdoor performance stage. Angel Republic is scheduled to perform. Free snow cones and popcorn will be provided. Taqueria Maranatha and Steph’s Sweets will have food booths. Live art demonstrations will occur throughout the day.

The event will be held in conjunction with a student art gallery. More than 200 students from 19 schools in Madera County participated in an art contest this spring. Artwork from students in kindergarten through high school will be displayed in a student art gallery at the event.

“We are very excited to present another extraordinary ArtsFest event,” said Cecilia Massetti, Ed.D., Madera County Superintendent of Schools. “The student artwork submitted this year is amazing. We have such talented students in Madera County and are looking forward to showcasing our exceptional students!”

Students competed in separate divisions: K-3rd grade, 4th-6th grade, 7th-8th grade, and 9th-12th grade. They were also judged in separate categories: 2-dimensional art, 3-dimentional art and still photography.

Students will be awarded ribbons for first, second, third place and honorable mention. All students will receive a certificate of participation. An awards ceremony recognizing all participants will be held at 11 a.m. on the outdoor stage.

The Arts Council is a partner of ArtsFest and will provide art demonstrators, hands-on art booth volunteers and help in the art gallery.

“Please join us for a day immersed in music, crafts, food and fun!” said Massetti.

The public is invited to attend the event. Door prizes will be awarded. Madera County Office of Education is located at 1105 S. Madera Avenue. For more information please call Kristi Winter at 559-662-3873.
