A Woodcarver's Gathering for All

OAKHURST – The California Carvers Guild, along with the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce and Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau, are proud to bring you the 8th Annual Woodcarver’s Rendezvous held at the Oakhurst Community Center April 19-25.

Woodcarvers travel from far and wide to attend this unique event located just outside Yosemite’s southern entrance.

For a week, all levels of carvers will enjoy carving sessions, demonstrations and seminars. Class examples include carving in cottonwood bark, wood turning and much more. Artists are invited to showcase their creativity, learn new techniques and above all, have fun.

But it’s not just for the carver. The event simultaneously offers many arts and craft programs such as special leather classes and pine needle basket weaving for individuals wanting to partake in the festivities.

The general public is welcome to stop in throughout the week, free of charge, to watch the carvers take a piece of raw wood to a finished work of art and the crafters work on their projects.

Carved faces“This special week of carving is guaranteed to be fun for the whole family and we would like to extend a special invitation for everyone to come and join us,” said Larry Smith, co-chair of the event. “We will also have crafts and other activities for your ‘tag-alongs.'”

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors will be treated to displays of carvers in action, live demonstrations and a vast selection of finished projects from the week some of which will be available to purchase.
