HORNITOS — Organizers of the Mariposa County 4-H Citizenship project have scheduled their 9th Annual Multiple Sclerosis Bike-A-Thon for Sunday, April 26 in the historic town of Hornitos.

The popular event is open to the public and all ages are invited to participate. This year’s event again will also include runners and walkers.

The course starts at Hornitos Park where registration begins at 9 a.m. the day of the event.

The Run-, Walk- and Bike-A-Thon will kick off around 10 a.m. and participants will travel down Hornitos Road to Indian Gulch Road then back to the finish at Hornitos Park, with a BBQ and awards ceremony.

All proceeds from the event are going to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

MS is a serious progressive disease of the central nervous system, occurring mainly in young adults and thought to be caused by a malfunction of the immune system. It leads to the loss of myelin in the brain or spinal cord and causes muscle weakness, poor eyesight, slow speech and some inability to move.
