8th Graders Present "The Headless Horseman"

Written by Robyn Flory

NORTH FORK – Rehearsals are winding down for the 25th annual Eighth Grade Play at North Fork School. This year’s play is “The Headless Horseman Rides Again,” a comedy adapted from Washington Irving’s Classic Story.

Crafty Mr. Van Bloom wants Bronco Bones for a son-in-law so he can gain access to Bronco’s land holdings. His daughter Katie, however, is in love with the school teacher Ichabod Crane.

In an attempt to force Ichabod to leave town, Van Bloom makes everyone think that the schoolhouse is haunted! As you can see this is adapted from the classic story with lots of twists and turns along the way.

Destiny Bethel as Esmeralda in front and Lindsey Furgerson as Betsy and Mariah Smith as Jane in the backAll 8th graders have been rehearsing and working on this production since the end of January, along with handling the publicity. All cast members are busy learning their lines and blocking, and the crew is hard at work learning their cues for the lights, sound, curtain, and special effects.

There will also be a special appearance by the 4th and 5th graders of North Fork School, performing a selected poem that goes with the theme of the evening.

Besides the experience of creating and performing this production, the play is a major fundraiser for the 8th Grade trip to Catalina and their graduation, and is sponsored by the Squirrel Cage Theatre Co.

The performance will be Friday, Mar. 21, in Kennedy Hall at the North Fork School. The cost of the play is just $3, and curtain time is at 7 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be sold during the evening.

The 8th Grade Class would like to invite everyone to come for an evening of entertainment and great fun!
