OAKHURST — The Yosemite Unified School Board is seeking potential candidates to replace retiring board member, Joe Smith, Yosemite Unified School District (YUSD) announced. Candidates must live in Trustee Area 4 (see full map below).
Potential candidates may pick up applications from Raylene Trent at the YUSD district office or email rtrent@yosemiteusd.org to obtain a copy of the application. Questions can be directed to Raylene either by email or by calling (559) 683-8801 extension 348. Raylene Trent is the Executive Secretary to the District Superintendent, Dr. Cecelia Lynn Greenberg, Ed.D.
All applications must be delivered in a sealed envelope to Raylene Trent no later than Thursday, Jan. 11 at 4 p.m., according to the District.
Pending modifications, the anticipated schedule is as follows:
- Thursday, Jan. 11 — All applications due to Raylene Trent at YUSD district office
- Monday, Jan. 22 — Candidate Interviews with the board
- Monday, Feb. 12 — New board member named

YUSD is comprised of Coarsegold Elementary School, Rivergold Elementary School, a growing Educational Options program, and Yosemite High School. Longtime Trustee Joe Smith tendered his resignation in October.
“After 12 years of service to the Bass Lake Joint Union Elementary School District and 5 year of service to the Yosemite Unified School District I am submitting my retirement notice as Trustee to the Yosemite Unified School Board effective January 2018,” Smith said.
“Recent medical issues and increased family responsibilities demand I focus my efforts on these matters. It’s been a pleasure serving on both these School Districts Boards and working with everyone to have a positive impact on our community.”
The Board of Trustees for Yosemite Unified School District, according to the District website, currently includes:

Christine Wilder, Board President, Area 2, 2017 – 2020
Tammy Loveland, Area 3, 2017 – 2020
Joe Smith, Area 4, 2017 – 2020, resigned effective Jan. 2018

The next regular Board of Trustees Meeting is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 in the Yosemite Unified School District Library, at 6 p.m.
