Yosemite Lakes Park Blood Drive

Central Valley Blood Bank photoYOSEMITE LAKES PARK – Experts say 97% of all Americans will have a loved one or friend need life-saving blood in their lifetimes, and 75% of people who reach age 72 will have needed blood themselves.

Ladies of the Lakes (LOL), in partnership with the Central Valley Blood Bank, is hosting a blood drive on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They’ll be set up inside the Yosemite Lakes Park (YLP) Clubhouse, in the Fireside Room.

There’s a “pint-for-pint” incentive with Baskin Robbins: “you give a pint of blood and you will receive a coupon for a pint of ice cream at your local Baskins Robbins ice cream shop,” say organizers. There’s also a 1-for-1 voucher for entrance to the Fresno Fair.

“All blood types are needed. The Blood Bank says supplies are very low, so please consider donating.”

Blood donors must be 17 years or older, or 16 with written parental consent. The interval between donations is a minimum of eight weeks for whole blood donation. Blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, blood count and drug therapy must fall within range according to specifications by the blood bank. For more information, including a complete list of medicines that may cause temporary or permanent disqualification from donating blood, visit the Central California Blood Center website.

Ladies of the Lakes is a women’s club devoted to “promoting the interests and activities that enhance the quality of life in YLP.” Their general meetings take place in the Yosemite Lakes Owners Association Clubhouse on the third Monday of the month, except July and August. New members are welcome.
