Yosemite High Theater Festival Standouts

L-R, Yosemite High seniors Zoe Bush and Kelly Ravel

OAKHURST — Yosemite High School Theater Arts students enjoyed the process and earned awards at the Lenaea Theater Festival in Folsom last month.

The Lenaea Festival is the largest high school theater festival in Northern California, with more than 60 schools participating in the program.

Yosemite High School seniors Zoe Bush and Kelly Ravel earned special Judges Awards for their work.

Zoe sang a song from the musical Spring Awakening, and Kelly performed a monologue from the play Goodtime Charley.

The best part of the festival is the feedback students get from professional adjudicators. These professional performers and directors watch the student’s work, then they workshop with them, offering suggestions and approaches to improve their pieces. Then, the performer tries the material again using the suggestions.

The Judges Awards are given to students who really listen to the suggestions and make significant improvements in their piece.

Yosemite High School took 18 students to the Folsom festival. We are very proud of Zoe and Kelly. They worked well with the judges and did a great job. All of my students learned a lot and had a good time.

Lars Thorson is the Chair of the Theater Arts Department
