Update On The Ben Fire Friday 6 PM

MARIPOSA — Firefighters continue to make good progress on the Ben fire, burning in Mariposa County. It is now 70 percent contained and is still holding at 630 acres.

After a hard closure during the height of suppression efforts, Ben Hur Road at Buckeye, and Ben Hur Road at the entrance to the Quick Ranch were open yesterday, to residents only.

There are currently 437 personnel assigned to the incident, including 40 engines, 21 crews, 4 dozers and 7 water tenders, and 4 helicopters.

No injuries have reported either to firefighters or the public.

An Incident Command Post has been set up at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds.

The Ben Fire was reported just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, near 3081 Ben Hur Road.

No structures are threatened at this time, and no evacuations have been ordered.

Firefighters continue their work to strengthen firelines around the perimeter.

The fire is burning in grass and oak woodland.

Cal Fire, Mariposa County Fire, Mariposa County Sheriff, PG&E and CHP are the cooperating agencies.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
