Update On Recent Fire Calls

MADERA COUNTY – Firefighters have responded to several calls in the past week, with the first on Road 400 at Lilley Mountain Road.

On Thursday afternoon, July 11, crews responded to a fire on Road 400 that began burning up Lilley Mountain. Initially, several structures were threatened, but with two tanker drops delivered very quickly, none were lost.

Several homes did, however, get a nice dusting of the pink retardant, according to Cal Fire spokesperson Karen Guillemin.

The fire burned nearly 11 acres before being contained and brought under control. The cause is under investigation.

On Monday, July 15, crews were called out to a structure fire on Blue Vista Court just north of Indian Lakes off Highway 41.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the attic area of the house. It was soon discovered that the source of the smoke was food left to burn on the stove, and the remaining resources were called off.

Sirens were heard early this morning in the Oakhurst area as engines responded to a dispatch, but Guillemin says no fire was located and everyone returned to quarters.

  1. Please follow up regarding the July 11 fire in YLP so we will eventually find out if it was arson or not. We need to know if there is a copy cat arsonist out there! Thanks.
