NORTH FORK — On Sunday, Nov. 26, Madera County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home in the 31000 block of Wyle Ranch Road in North Fork for a report of an assault with a firearm.

During the investigation, it was determined that Kenneth Anthony Couch, 37, and Robert James Puls, 34, had attempted to steal a vehicle from the victim at gunpoint, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A follow-up investigation was conducted by Mountain Division patrol deputies which led to the identification of a home in the 52000 block of Road 426 in Oakhurst.

On Monday morning, Dec. 11, deputies served a search warrant at that location which resulted in the arrest of Puls and Couch and the recovery of the weapons believed to have been used during the incident.

Deputies reportedly seized methamphetamine, scales and packaging material from the residence. Road 426 was closed for approximately 15 minutes during the service of the search warrant.

Puls and Couch were transported to the Madera County Department of Corrections where they were booked for vehicle theft, robbery, assault with a stun gun and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Both are being held on a $100,000 bond.
