New Fire Starts Outside Detwiler Fire Lines

MARIPOSA COUNTY — Firefighters are being diverted from the Detwiler Fire to reports of a new fire outside the containment lines.

The first unit at scene reported the fire at about 5-8 acres burning between Hunters Valley and Lake McClure.

A full air response is en route. Three strike teams of engines, plus dozers are being diverted from the Detwiler Fire.

By 12:30, the incident commander reported they had water drops down the left flank and retardant down the right, and were making good progress. He was advised there were a lot of resources headed toward the fire, and should “use them all.”

By 1:40 p.m., the fire was reported at about 40 acres with a moderate to dangerous rate of spread.

At 2:40 p.m., the fire was reported at about 100 acres, with the left flank burning toward the lake, and the right flank headed toward the burn-out area already charred by the Detwiler Fire.

We will update as conditions change.
