Cars, trucks, motorcycles: all vehicles are welcome. The cost is $25 per person.

Preregistration is recommended and includes a t-shirt, tri-tip lunch, 3 raffle tickets and 1 poker hand. The event is not limited to Lions Club members and the group strongly encourages other individuals and clubs, including car and motorcycle clubs, to participate.

The preregistration deadline is Sunday, Oct. 6. T-shirts may not be available to those who register after that date.

Additional poker hands may be purchased for $5 each; extra raffle tickets are 3 for $1 and additional t-shirts can be pre-ordered at a cost of $15 each.

A Poker Run is an organized event where participants, often on motorcycles or in nearly any kind of vehicle, check in at a series of different locations where they draw a playing card each visit. The goal is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run.

In this case, there will be five stops around the mountain area, and the group will wind up at the Lions Camp Pacifica around 3 p.m. That’s when the BBQ happens, including tri tip, beans, salad and dessert.

Lion Mary Roseling says the group organized the Poker Run because the event can appeal to just about anyone, and that groups like car and bike clubs will even come from Fresno to play their Poker Run hand.

Lions Club International logoMary herself rides a Yamaha 1100 and her husband Rod, also a Lion, rides a Harley Screaming Eagle. Mary says her bike days began eight years ago, around the time Rod said she was “too little to ride a bike.”

Mary, at 4′ 6″ may be petite; she’s also determined and clearly not to be messed with. Mary went out and bought a bike and they both agreed, she could ride. Rod followed suit after having taken a long break from riding, and the two are now happily helping to plan the Poker Run to benefit Manna House and Camp Pacifica.

“We are looking for sponsors,” says Mary, “and the sponsors’ names will go in the back of the t-shirt. We have put the word out and we expect to have a good crowd and a lot of fun.”

In a follow-the-chalk-lines Poker Run like this one, participants can expect to have a direction or coordinate to a particular junction or intersection, and then as they approach their ultimate destination, they will follow chalk lines drawn on the ground, pick up their card and head to the next location, until they arrive at Camp Pacifica.
