Jazz Guitar Concert Follows Severson Workshop

OAKHURST — Twenty-six jazz guitarists and eleven bass players from across the U.S. and Canada will be performing in a Jazz Concert on Thursday, June 30, from 7 – 9:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Queen’s Inn by the River.

There is no admission fee — a donation of $5 or greater will go to the Boys & Girls Club of Oakhurst. The concert is the grand finale of an annual five day Yosemite Jazz Guitar and Bass Workshop being held June 26- July 1, at Evergreen Conference Center in Oakhurst.

This is the 14th jazz workshop hosted by jazz guitarist and Coarsegold resident Rich Severson and sponsored by his guitar education website, GuitarCollege.com.

Featured performances will include Severson and his guest artist instructors, including bassist Todd Johnson from Phoenix, Grammy-nominated guitarist David Brecker, and jazz guitarist Mike Dana. Dana is a Grammy-nominated music educator and Director of Jazz Studies at Fresno City College.

Gary Newmark, also from Fresno, will be joining in on drums. The workshop’s participants and instructors will break into small combos to perform a variety of jazz standards through the evening.

Artists’ CDs will be available to purchase that night.
