Flash Flood Warning For Central Sierra

CENTRAL SIERRA – The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a flash flood warning for north central Madera County and east central Mariposa County until 8:45 p.m.

Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated a thunderstorm producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen, and flash flooding is expected.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Yosemite south entrance, Wawona, Mariposa Grove, Ostrander Lake and Fish Camp.

Anyone affected is urged to move to higher ground and act quickly to protect your life. “Turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you can do so safely.
