Firefighters Hosted By The Camp They Saved

Submitted by Rev. Bill Ekhardt, DMin MBA, Calvin Crest Conferences

OAKHURST – Calvin Crest Conferences, a Christian Camp in Oakhurst, Calif., that was evacuated last Thursday due to the Sky Fire, is now housing up to 120 firefighters who helped save it from the fire.

Crews began arriving around noon on Wednesday, and Calvin Crest plans to host the fire fighters through Saturday.

The camp is closed this first week of its summer season due to the mandatory evacuation. We are hoping and planning to open for the second week of camp on Sunday, June 28.

We will host about 120 family campers and about 30 developmentally disabled adults in addition to volunteer counselors, medical personnel and our 55-member college-age summer staff.

Calvin Crest Conferences has been serving churches throughout the Central Valley, Southern California and Nevada since 1954. It is 364 acres of secluded, wooded grounds surrounded on all sides by the Sierra National Forest.

In addition, we serve schools throughout the Central Valley by offering 6th grade outdoor school.
