Firefighters Battling 75-Acre Fire Near Kerkhoff

AUBERRY – Firefighters are battling a 75-acre wildfire just above Kerkhoff Reservoir, north of Auberry.

The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. today near 39000 Powerhouse Road. Firefighters are responding from Cal Fire MMU and FKU, and Sierra National Forest.

Air attack is over the fire, directing operations for three air tankers and two helicopters. Dozers are also en route.

Two strike teams of ground crews are also on order.

Though the road remains open at this time, with the amount of resources accessing the narrow road, it is likely there may be closures. Motorists will probably be best served to avoid traveling between North Fork and Auberry on this route.
