Fatal Accident Involving Motorcycle In North Fork

NORTH FORK — An accident involving a vehicle and a motorcycle has left one person deceased this afternoon.

Just after 2:30 p.m. a North Fork resident was northbound on Bonnie B Road in a Ford Edge, approaching Wilcox Drive, according to CHP.  At the same time, a motorcycle rider from North Fork was southbound approaching the same location.

The driver of the Ford began to turn left onto Wilcox Drive, without seeing or hearing the approaching motorcycle as he crossed into the southbound lane. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Ford, ejecting the motorcycle rider onto the pavement.

Neighbors who heard the crash, and Ponderosa Telephone employees who were working at an installation on the corner, all ran to assist the downed rider. They began performing CPR and kept it up until firefighters and Sierra Ambulance arrived.

Despite the best efforts of Good Samaritans and medical personnel to save his life, Arthur Hernandez, age 65, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

CHP closed the roadway at 3 p.m. and as of 5:15 p.m. the roadway was reopened to traffic. The accident remains under investigation.

On Friday, Feb. 2 a GoFundMe account was set up by Sandy Dew to help the family:
