Driver Crashes Into H&L Lumber Parking Lot

OAKHURST – A single vehicle accident in Oakhurst on Sunday night ended in an arrest for DUI.

Debra Wilcox, 50, of Oakhurst, was driving a 1999 Chevy Silverado northbound on Highway 41 at about 10 p.m., just north of Golden Oak Loop, at an unknown rate of speed.Due to her excessive level of alcohol intoxication, she was unable to safely negotiate the left hand curve just past the Valero Station, and drifted onto the right shoulder, hitting the raise asphalt curb, according to the CHP.

Wilcox then drove off the road and down the dirt and grass embankment, colliding with two trees and a metal pole, finally coming to rest at the bottom of the bank in the parking lot of H&L Lumber.

According to CHP, the driver clearly smelled of alcohol at the scene.

After being extracted from the vehicle, Wilcox was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where she was treated for her injuries, and then arrested for DUI.

The accident is under investigation.
