Coffee Shop Serves As Outreach To Local Youth

NORTH FORK – Downtown North Fork will soon welcome a new gathering place — this one designed to serve the young people of the community.

Public Coffee House is a youth center coffee shop to be opened in the heart of town.

The coffee house is being directed and managed by Kory Nunez, Youth Director at Calvary Chapel of the Sierra, and his wife Mallory, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School director. It is being supported by Calvary Chapel of the Sierra and the local church community.

“This is not just another coffee shop, but a refuge and a place that will provide opportunity for the youth and ultimately hope,” says Kory. “This is a project that will benefit the whole of North Fork, so we hope that it will have the support of the town.”

To further their efforts, the church invites everyone to a fundraising dinner at Bandit Town on Saturday, July 16, at 5 p.m. All proceeds will go to support the Public Coffee House.

The cost is $40 for a four-course meal. Guests will be able to order from a menu from their table, and be served a choice of either Tri Tip, Chicken Cordon Bleu, or Pulled Pork, and a coffee bar will be open. Then sit back relax, eat and enjoy some coffee and some musical entertainment.

Funds raised will go to start-up costs. Public Coffee House will take up residence in the garages across the street from the library. Kory says there is some work to be done there before PCH will be able to move in, and some furnishings that still need to be purchased.

The vision of Public Coffee House is best described in their mission statement.

“Our mission is to provide alternatives to the status quo and break the cycle of addiction, depression and self destruction by providing a public home for the youth; a place of opportunity and hope, only to be found in the gospel of Jesus Christ; to provide an avenue for the local church to be present and active in the center of town, building relationships with the community directing them to Christ.”
