Body of Chowchilla Teen Found in Corn Field

Authorities believe it was murder
MADERA COUNTY – Sheriff John Anderson has launched a murder investigation after a teenager’s body was discovered in a corn field near Chowchilla.

The remains of a decomposing body were found Monday, Oct. 15, in a field just off Avenue 14 near Road 9 in southwest Madera County.

The victim was identified as Pete Rios Jr., 18, of Chowchilla.A farmer disking the field discovered the body about 75 to 100 yards into the corn field Anderson said.

Rios was reportedly last seen on the evening of Sunday Oct. 7, in Chowchilla.

This is the fourth homicide the Madera County Sheriff’s Office has investigated this year. Two of those cases were ruled to be “justifiable homicide,” Anderson said.
