AHWAHNEE – The nonprofit women’s group Helping One Woman (HOW) is meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Hitching Post restaurant to honor Sharlene Williams.
The evening of food, fundraising and friendship begins at 6 p.m. This event was originally scheduled for July 19 and was postponed due to activity surrounding the Detwiler Fire in Mariposa.
Sharlene’s husband Greg Williams lost a two-and-a-half year battle with cancer in May, leaving Sharlene and their teenage son Scotte to learn to cope without him.
“Sharlene and Greg, who own the Hitching Post in Ahwahnee, have been great contributors to our community,” HOW organizers say. “We are appreciative of her service and now have a chance to show her our support as well.”
HOW meets monthly for an uplifting evening in honor of one deserving woman who receives the community’s support when they need it the most.
Those participating in the HOW benefit will offer $10 or more as a suggested donation for Sharlene and pay for their own dinner. Proceeds from the event go directly to Sharlene at the end of the evening.
HOW says that “one woman with $10 can buy another woman lunch. Ten women giving $10 can buy another woman’s groceries. One hundred women giving $10 can make a real difference in another woman’s life.”
