MOUNTAIN AREA — With trees already down throughout the region, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Wind Advisory for Yosemite National Park to Kings Canyon, including the Mariposa, Madera and Fresno County foothills, and the towns of North Fork, Oakhurst and Mariposa.
The Wind Advisory is in effect through 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1.
Winds are northeast 5 to 15 miles per hour with gusts up to 55 miles per hour, according to the NWS, with the strongest foothill gusting expected in the vicinity of North Fork and Oakhurst. In the higher country, winds could reach or exceed 60 miles per hour.
The winds will continue and remain gusty through late Tuesday morning. Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees and power lines.
A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 miles per hour or more are expected, which could make driving difficult especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
