YOSEMITE – A young man visiting from Israel died when he fell from the top of Nevada Fall in Yosemite National Park on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, 18-year-old Tomer Frankfurter of Jerusalem was killed when he fell about 500 feet. They have ruled the fall an accident.
Yosemite officials are still investigating the incident and are not releasing any details at this time.
Another visitor from Israel told ABC30 that this was supposed to be a vacation for the young man before joining the army.
According to The Times of Israel, Frankfurter’s mother said her son was on a two-month trip to the U.S. and that she was told by authorities that he was trying to take a selfie but apparently slipped and fell from the top of the waterfall.
The investigation continues into the accident.
