OAKHURST – Last year’s fires inspired lots of mountain folks to ask how they could help. Before this year’s fire season gets underway, an opportunity to participate is available with the Central California Animal Disaster Team (CCADT). CCADT is currently recruiting members, and is offering training at a workshop in Oakhurst on Wednesday, May 27, from 6 to 8 p.m.

BASS LAKE – The Smokey Bear Run / Walk returns to Bass Lake on Saturday, Sept. 26, and now is the time to register to get the early bird discount by June 30. This is an annual event held in the transition period between summer and autumn, and this fall, organizers are celebrating the 28th year of the race.

OAKHURST – A non-denominational, community service will be held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25 at the Little Church in Oakhill Cemetery. Service begins at 9 a.m. to honor those men and women of the military who died in defense of our country.
