Sierra National Forest Closes Minarets Road

NORTH FORK— Sierra National Forest (SNF) officials have announced the closure of a segment
of Minarets Road (4S81) at Mile Post 28 as of Thursday, February 22. That segment of the road is currently unsafe. Because of the heavy rainfall deep fissures are threatening the road’s integrity.

This closure will allow SNF road crews to put in place a temporary repair so that the impacted segment can be re-opened to all traffic. Meanwhile, a permanent fix is designed to address drainage challenges. The work for the temporary repair is expected to be completed by Monday, March 11, pending weather conditions.

See below for more pictures of the damage to the road.

For the safety of visitors and the efficiency of implementing the repairs, that segment of the road will be closed. This will include all routine traffic, motorist, cyclist, and hikers during repairs. The closed section of 4S81, at Mile Post 28, will remain accessible for emergency services only while temporary repairs are underway. That segment of the road will likely remain barricaded while heavy equipment remains on-site. SNF officials are in communication with the Regional Geotechnical Engineer for assistance with the design of the permanent repair.

SNF will keep you informed of the status as repairs progress. Please follow them at Facebook.com/SierraNF for updates, or contact the Bass Lake Ranger District office, at (559) 877-2218 for more information.
