At 6:15 p.m. this evening, a 17-year-old male from Madera was westbound on Road 200 in a 2005 Chevy SUV at what CHP describes as “a high rate of speed.”

The driver told the investigating officer that an eastbound vehicle moved into his lane, forcing him to take evasive action and hit the rock embankment on the south side of the road.

The vehicle overturned several times before coming to rest on the driver’s side, blocking the eastbound lane.

Witnesses reported that the young man was able to extricate himself from the wrecked SUV, and that a registered nurse happened on the scene and stayed with the patient until EMS arrived.

The driver was transported by Sierra Ambulance to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with what were described as minor injuries.

According to CHP, there were no other occupants in the vehicle and no independent witnesses as to how the collision occurred; it remains under investigation.

One-lane traffic control was put in place for about an hour as the scene was cleared.
