Pregnant Woman Involved In Fatal DUI Crash Sentenced

Candice OoleyMADERA COUNTY — Candice Ooley, the Clovis woman who pleaded guilty in October to gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing injury after a fatal crash on Highway 41 in May, was sentenced today in Madera Superior Court to 11 years in prison.

Ooley was 23 years old and pregnant at the time she caused the crash that took the life of Frederico Nunez Silva, 47, of Lemoore, Calif., and injured three others. She ran her car into the back of a Hummer containing the four crash victims, forcing it off the road where it overturned down the embankment.

The crash happened on Highway 41 just north of Road 200 on Friday, May 20, 2016. Ooley was driving on a suspended license, following a DUI arrest in June 2015.

Ooley gave birth over the summer while she was incarcerated.
