NORTH FORK — A fast-moving vegetation fire that sparked late Saturday afternoon south of North Fork near Reddinger Lake was about 30 percent contained as of 6:45 p.m. Sunday, according to CAL FIRE.
Dubbed the Power Fire, the blaze has scorched about 108 acres and destroyed several structures as it moves toward Corrine Lake Road.
Four firefighters have been hurt battling the blaze. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.
“It is pretty hot and pretty dry out here,” CAL FIRE Spokesperson Jaime Williams told ABC 30 earlier Sunday. “Crews are working in very steep and rugged terrain, but they did a really good job at getting out there and making a really aggressive attack.”
A mandatory evacuation order was lifted Sunday for residents living along Corinne Lake Road from Road 235 to Road 222 as well as those along Carmen Ranch Road and Box Canyon Road.
Corrine Lake Road remains open to residents only, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.
A Red Cross information site has been set up at the Old Mill site in North Fork for evacuees and others impacted by the fire.
Aerial tankers and helicopters worked through the day Sunday dumping fire retardant over the stubborn fire while firefighting crews from Madera County and Fresno County worked to contain the blaze officials still call “dangerous.”
The fire reportedly started along Road 222 four or five miles below Road 200 near Powerhouse 1, according to witness accounts.
