National Weather Service Predicts Severe Winter Storm Ahead

MOUNTAIN COMMUNITIES — There are so many reasons we love living here in the foothills of the Motherlode, however, there are some risks as well. One of the biggest risks is wildfires, and for the past several months we’ve been living on edge waiting for a wildfire to strike close to home. Now, just like someone turned on a switch, it’s time to get prepared for winter weather.

Many of you are probably already aware that the National Weather Service is predicting a severe winter storm to hit our communities over the next several days.

Here are a few things you can do to be prepared at home and while you are on the roads.

At Home
+ Have an emergency kit on hand.
+ Know what to do during a power outage.
+ Stay informed.  Sign up for alerts and warnings.

On the Roads
+ Pack an emergency supply kit for your car.
+ Prepare your car by making sure it’s in good working order and has the appropriate tires and equipment.
+ Stay informed. Check road conditions before traveling.
+ Don’t drive through flooded roads.
