Mariposa County Reports First New Case in Weeks

MARIPOSA — County health officials on Tuesday reported a new case of COVID-19 — boosting the total cases countywide to 16.

The latest virus victim, a 64-year-old man, is currently isolating at home. Health officials say he was infected through community transmission “outside of the county.”

Tuesday’s latest case is the first new case in Mariposa County in weeks.

Mariposa County didn’t record its first case until April 28. Of the 15 confirmed cases, all but one have now recovered, health officials say.

In early March, a 78-year-old Mariposa County woman died from COVID-19-related complications. The woman, who reportedly had underlying health conditions, contracted the virus from a Stanislaus County nursing and rehabilitation center, health officials have confirmed.
