Glacier High Decathletes Are Successful At State Competition

Madera County’s Decathletes Earn Medals at the State Competition!

MADERA COUNTY — Nearly 500 students from 59 schools participated in the 44th Annual California Academic Decathlon in person in Santa Clara on March 24-26.  Students delivered speeches, conducted interviews, and competed in the Super Quiz on March 25.  Students took tests in seven subject areas and wrote essays at their school sites on March 11.

“It was a fun weekend of team bonding as well as competing,” said Leslie Rouse, Madera South High School coach.  “We are so glad for the opportunity to represent Madera County and very proud of all of the students that competed at the state competition.” California Academic Decathlon gives awards to the top-scoring student on each team.  Rosabelle Flores received that honor and student Ashley Banuelos earned a silver medal in the interview competition.

Glacier High competed against eight schools and 54 students in the virtual competition on March 11 and earned ten medals.  Eli Lockwood earned gold medals for economics, essay, and social science and bronze for literature and music.  Corban Stanford earned gold medals in economics and essay and a bronze medal in social science.  Levi Rumohr received a bronze medal in art, and Jonathan Gorham received a bronze medal in math.

“Receiving medals at the state competition is an amazing accomplishment,” said Dr. Cecilia Massetti, Madera County Superintendent of Schools.  “We are proud and pleased with the students and their performance at the California Academic Decathlon.”

This was Madera County’s 42nd year participating in the Academic Decathlon.  This year’s topic was “The Revolutionary War and the New Nation.”  The Madera County Academic Decathlon is hosted by the Madera County Superintendent of Schools and the Madera County Schools Foundation.
