Gaines Fire: Morning Update

MARIPOSA:  The Gaines Fire, which began earlier yesterday in Mariposa County, has so far burned 1300 acres.

Containment is at 15 percent.

Per the Mariposa County Sheriff’s office, there is an evacuation advisory for the following locations:

  • Pendola Garden Rd.
  • Corbett Creek
  • Gold Dust Lane
  • Old Toll from Hornitos to Pendola Gardens Rd.
  • Hwy 49 from Bear Valley Rd. to Pendola Gardens Rd.
  • Bear Valley Rd Hwy 49 to Hunters Valley Rd.

While some units have been released, as of 5:45 p.m. last night, the following resources had been deployed:

  • 40 engines
  • 400 personnel
  • 6 air tankers
  • 1 VLAT heavy duty air tanker
  • 6 bulldozer transports
  • 4 water tenders

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Per Michelle Stone, the area that the tanker is dropping its retardant on is almost completely barren due to being completely consumed two years ago in the Detwiler Fire burn scar.
