Firefighters Make Good Progress On O’Neals Fire

O’NEALS – Crews made excellent progress on the O’Neals Fire today, now reported to be holding at 300 acres with 60 percent containment.

(UPDATE: Wednesday, June 6, fire is 80 percent contained.)

The fire is burning in the Hildreth area off Road 210 on the Mitchell and Topping Ranches. Very little smoke was visible across the fire perimeter today.

There are currently 200 personnel assigned to the incident including 16 engines, 7 crews, 5 water tenders, 3 dozers and 2 helicopters.

Though five structures were initially threatened and two homes evacuated, no buildings were lost and residents have been allowed to return home.

The fire was reported at about 5:43 p.m. on Monday, June 4, burning in oak woodlands and grass in the ranch lands east of O’Neals. It started in the bottom of a steep draw and moved quickly to the top of a flat table mountain where it was stopped at Topping Ranch Road.

There has been one minor injury to a firefighter reported.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
