Ferguson Fire Jumps The Merced River South Of Foresta

MARIPOSA COUNTY – The Ferguson Fire has spotted north across the Merced River east of El Portal.

The nearly 74,000-acre fire has been very active on the eastern perimeter over the last several days, and at about 6:30 a.m. today, reports came in that the fire had jumped the river about one mile east of El Portal.

As of 8:45 a.m., the fire was reportedly established in Crane Creek and was making a run up the steep ridge to the northeast toward Park Line Slab.

Additional resources have been sent into Foresta for structure protection. The community has been under a mandatory evacuation order since July 20.

Crews are doing point protection – targeting individual structures – across the community.

Very low visibility is restricting what aircraft can do to assist in suppression efforts.

We will update as conditions develop.
