Lunch Chat: Advocacy for Earth Day
April 20, 2022 at 12 p.m.

Join Tuolumne River Trust virtually on April 20, 2022, from 12 – 1 p.m., as Policy Director Peter Drekmeier shares what you can do to support environmentally-friendly water policy in the Bay Area. Without the first Earth Day in 1970, there would be no U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, no Clean Air Act, no Clean Water Act, no Endangered Species Act and no legal or regulatory mechanisms to protect our environment.

Earth Day is a reminder of the power we have as a collective. Together, we shape our future and the health of the places we call home. If you’re wondering how you can help support environmental protection, advocating is one of the best and most tangible ways of making a difference. When the public speaks, decision makers listen.

This event is coordinated by a group of dedicated students, faculty, and staff who volunteer their time and is sponsored by the Sierra College ECOS Club with the generous support of the Associated Students of Sierra College. We hope to see you there! The events are open to the public & free of charge.

Earth Day of the Foothills
April 23, 2022, at 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

A free, community-wide Earth Day event will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sierra Pines United Methodist Church, located near Lake of the Pines, will host “Earth Day in the Foothills 2022” on their 4.5-acre campus.

“We are excited to host ‘Earth Day of the Foothills,’ celebrating creation, learning how to be good stewards of the earth and providing space for our community to come together,” says De Calvert, a member of Sierra Pines UMC.

The zero-waste, inaugural event will feature local performers including Blue Oaks Acoustic, TRXTR, and Billy and the Bobcats, as well as an open drum circle. Heartwork will lead two of their individually-tailored photography nature classes, and folks of all ages and abilities will also be welcome to the meat-free cooking class, walking the labyrinth, play areas and more.

“We’ve tried to extend the invitation far and wide,” says Chris Allan, a community organizer working on the event. “We know that so many folks in the region are eager to be outside at this time, coming together to participate in activities related to the planet that we all call home.”

Organizations as diverse as The Society of Garden Goddesses and the Alliance for Environmental Leadership will host informational booths in the main parking lot, and a variety of speakers and demonstrations will take place in the church’s multi-purpose room.
