County Clerk Set To Release Draft Election Administration Plan For 2020

MADERA – County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters Rebecca Martinez released today the draft Election Administration Plan (EAP) calendar for the 2020 Presidential Election Cycle.

“On August 16th my office will make available to the public the draft Election Administration Plan,” explained Martinez. “I encourage the public to take a few minutes to review the document and submit their thoughts.”

Plan will be available for public review and comment.

Hearing will be held August 28th.

The EAP is a detailed plan on how the 2020 election will be conducted including the intended locations for vote centers, ballot drop box siting and an outreach component to inform the public. This will be Madera’s second cycle utilizing the 2016 passed Voter’s Choice Act improvements that replaced polling places with multi-day vote centers and ensured every registered voter is mailed a vote-by-mail ballot.

“Madera County has, for many years, been a majority vote-by-mail county,” stated Martinez. “For over 60% of my constituents the improvements brought about by the Voters’ Choice Act will have no impact on their voting experience. For those voters who still prefer to vote in person, vote centers will be open several days and I encourage them to vote early as large crowds are expected the last few days of voting.”

The draft election administration plan will be open for public comment between August 16th and 5:00 p.m. on August 30th. A public hearing will be held at 3:00 p.m. on August 28th at the County Government Center. A detailed calendar for the EAP process is currently posted on the County Elections website at www.votemadera.com.

The draft EAP will be posted on the site on August 16th or interested parties may call the elections office at 800-435-0509 to obtain a copy.
