Celebration Of Life For Katherine Lea Jones

Katherine Lea Jones of Oakhurst, California passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the age of 84.

‘Kathy,’ as she was known to her friends, was born in Oklahoma on July 28, 1934. She grew up in Tulare County, California, and graduated from Dinuba High School in 1952.

Kathy was a resident of Oakhurst for 57 years. After a short stint as an operator for Sierra Telephone, Kathy became the co-publisher of The Sierra Star from 1957 to 1977. Kathy worked as an office manager, typesetter and layout artist for The Star and for Ponderosa Printing in Oakhurst for nearly 30 years.

Even while working full time and raising five children, Mrs. Jones found time for charitable work through her memberships with Mountain Bear Fan Club, part of Good Bears of the World, and Yosemite Mountain Doll Club.

Mrs. Jones leaves behind her husband, Cleon Jones, just 10 days shy of their 67th wedding anniversary. She is preceded in death by her first-born son, Wesley Jones, and one grandchild, Christina Eileen Fetty. She is survived by sons Michael Jones of Alberta, Canada, and Brian Jones of Oakhurst, as well as daughters Elizabeth Jones of Oakhurst and Suzanne Fetty of Ahwahnee. Katherine is also survived by grandchildren, Katie Thompson of Oakhurst, Christopher Fetty of Mile City Montana, in addition to Craig Fetty, Jessica Dye, Daniel Dye and Brittany Dye of Ahwahnee, Wesley Jones and Hannah Jones of Oakhurst, and six great-grand children. Kathy is also survived by her sister, Naomi Davis of West Virginia, and seven nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday, July 10th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Palm Memorial Sierra Chapel. Please join us in celebrating the life of this loving woman.
