OAKHURST — This year marks the 125th Anniversary of the dedication of the Little Church on the Hill located in the Oakhill Cemetery, and the nonprofit foundation that supports the landmark invites the community to a joyful celebration to mark the occasion.
The Little Church is a State of California Historical Point of Interest that has served the mountain community since it was consecrated as Christ Church on June 20, 1894.
In 1957, the historic church was moved to the Oakhill Cemetery, perched gracefully atop the knoll overlooking town. In the years since its restoration, the Little Church on the Hill has been host to weddings, baptisms, memorials and numerous veteran celebrations.
The anniversary celebration will be held on Saturday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to noon, beginning with the ringing of the church’s bell and including a talk about the church’s history, a proclamation from the Board of Supervisors, musical entertainment, ice cream refreshments and tours of the church and cemetery.
