CALIFORNIA – Oct. 9, 2020 – More than 14,000 firefighters continue to work towards containment on 20 major wildfires across the state. Yesterday, firefighters also responded to 14 new wildfires, quickly bringing full containment to all.
Since the beginning of the year, there have been over 8,400 wildfires that have burned well over 4 million acres in California. To date, the total number of fatalities statewide is 31 and more than 9,200 structures have been destroyed.
A Fire Weather Watch is in effect from Southern Modoc County south to Inyo County on the eastern side of the Sierra Mountains for gusty winds and low humidity on Saturday. Cooler temperatures and increased humidity continue today and into the weekend in most of the State. Next week, the return of warm and dry conditions is expected.
