Big Rig VS Automobile Slows Traffic On Hwy 41

O’NEALS – At approximately 1:20 PM on Tuesday May 11th a 2003 Nissan 350Z driven by Paul Jason Pilgrim, 46 of Fresno was travelling northbound on State Route 41 north of Road 200.

Mr. Pilgrim pulled to the east shoulder of SR-41 as a  2016 Western tractor and trailer driven by John Joseph Goulart, 62 of Chowchilla, also travelling northbound on SR-41, was approaching the Nissan. For unknown reasons Mr. Pilgrim appeared to make a U-turn directly in front of the tractor and trailer driven by Mr. Goulart.

Mr. Goulart braked hard and turned to the left in an attempt to avoid the Nissan. However, the tractor and trailer crashed into the left front of the Nissan. Mr. Goulart then turned right, trying to keep the tractor and trailer from going into the southbound lanes.

The tractor and trailer  ran off the roadway, through the guardrail and overturned down the embankment.

Mr. Goulart was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with major injuries.

Mr. Pilgrim was taken to Saint Agnes Medical Center with minor injuries.

Cal Trans responded to the scene to help with traffic control.

The crash is still under investigation.

Alcohol is not a factor in this crash.
