MADERA COUNTY – A man piloting a small plane made an emergency landing along an orchard on Highway 41 shortly before 5 p.m. this afternoon. The pilot, whose name is not being released at this hour, walked away unscathed, according to the Madera County Sheriff’s Office.

YOSEMITE – Gabriel Lawan-Ying, an 8-year-old from Gainesville, Fla., asked the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help him achieve his dream – he wanted to become a Yosemite National Park Ranger. On Monday, Gabriel earned the title of Honorary National Park Ranger after a full day of experiencing what it was like to carry out the duties of a Ranger in Yosemite.
