2021 Soroptimist Women Awards

2021 Soroptimist Women Awards Luncheon awarded $3300 In College Scholarships For Live Your Dream Awards And honored Two Ladies With Women Awards.

 Oakhurst – Soroptimist International of The Sierras had their Annual Women Awards Program Event virtually on April 15, 2021 in Oakhurst, CA.

Soroptimist awarded $3300. to three recipients for the 2020-2021 ‘Live Your Dream College Scholarships with recipients including Kristin Fetcho, Cindy Greenwood and Sarah Sheridan.  Recognizing women who are striving to improve their status of education, employment and standard of living, each award is $1,000. A $100 fuel card is an added bonus.

Each club year, we have two major fundraisers to support the awards such as the Chili Cook Off and our Spring Soup Salad Luncheon, but this year we did an online Easter Basket Auction.  Thank you to our community for the support with these fundraisers to support these important Soroptimist Dream Programs.

Kristin Fetcho is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology studying Physical Therapy and currently attending Madera Community College. Cindy Greenwood is already a medical assistant, but now working towards becoming a medical coder.  Sarah Sheridan is currently attending Fresno State and pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Family and Child Science.

The 2021 ‘Women of Distinction’ Award recipient was Jessica Steele, Owner of Oakhurst Grocery Outlet for her long standing dedication to our community.  She is involved with a variety of community events and has an amazing ‘can do’ spirit anytime she is asked to donate to Soroptimist or most any nonprofit organization to make our community a better place for our mountain area.

The 2021 ‘Women Helping Women’ Award recipient was Lori Prentice for her Connection Playbook.

Since 1968, Soroptimist International of The Sierras is a service club in the mountain community. It is an International volunteer organization working to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

Celebrating our 100th Anniversary in 2021 as Soroptimist International was founded in 1921, it has approximately 80,000 members in 132 countries and territories.  Soroptimist members belong to local clubs which determine community focus projects and programs in addition to supporting organization-wide programs, all of which benefit women and girls.
