Winter Weather Advisory In Effect

SIERRA NEVADA – The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, in effect from 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday for the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada.

Snow accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are expected above 7,500 feet, with the snow level falling to 5,000 feet by late Sunday morning.

Snow will begin falling Saturday afternoon, Mar. 29, with the heaviest snow Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Areas of accumulation will be Tioga Pass, Tuolumne Meadows, Huntington Lake, Grant Grove, Lodgepole, Badger Pass, Ponderosa and China Peak.

Winds will be westerly at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 40 mph. Gusts to 55 mph or higher are possible over the crest of the Sierra.

Blowing and drifting snow will make driving conditions hazardous, with slippery roads and limited visibility. Motorists should be prepared for road closures.
