Stand-Off Closes Highway 41 North Of Oakhurst

OAKHURST — Highway 41 in the vicinity of Road 630/Sugar Pine is currently closed due to law enforcement activity.

Just after 8 p.m. tonight, CHP was in pursuit of a vehicle that was speeding and swerving erratically when the driver refused to yield. The driver crashed off the west side of the road at approximately 8:20 p.m. near Road 630/Sugar Pine turnoff.

The driver has since refused to exit the vehicle. CHP and Madera County Sheriff’s deputies are at the scene, along with Sierra Ambulance, Cal Fire, and Madera County Fire.

Negotiators are still trying to talk the man out of the car. As of 9:45 the roadway is still closed.

As of 10 p.m., law enforcement is anticipating an extended closure. A Caltrans sign in Oakhurst will direct traffic to Highway 49 and authorities are turning cars around in order to avoid the area.

This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
