According to CHP, at approximately 12:15 p.m. a male driver from Coarsegold was heading westbound on Road 417 in a Honda sedan near Chukchansi Road, and traveling too fast for the rainy weather conditions.

As he rounded a corner, the Honda began to slide on the wet pavement into the path of oncoming traffic and was hit by a Ford Expedition, driven by a male, 19, also from Coarsegold, whose mother was in the front passenger seat of the Expedition.
