Senior Center Director Back In Court On Elder Abuse Charges

Katie Davis mugshotMADERA COUNTY — An Oakhurst woman accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from a 90-year-old man was back in Madera Superior Court this morning.

Kathryn (Katie) Davis, 54, was arrested on June 23 during a bingo game at the Senior Center in Oakhurst, where she is the Director. She was charged with stealing a large amount of money from Bill Youngs, someone she knew from her work at the Center.

During her court appearance, the case was continued until Aug. 29, when she is scheduled for a preliminary hearing conference.

According to District Attorney David Linn, “all parties are hopeful the case will be resolved at that time.”

No further details were available as to any settlement talks, or whether any other victims have been identified. The arrest followed a month-long investigation by D.A. and Sheriff’s investigators.

At the time of her arrest, Linn said it was not clear whether any of the money transferred into Davis’s bank account was a gift.

The family of Mr. Youngs says he is suffering from signs of dementia, and would never have given away money he needed to live on — which they say amounted to $50,000 — and even if it was offered, should have been declined and the family notified.

Davis is free on a $50,000 bond.
