Oakhurst Gets Its Own Toy Anime Comic Con

OAKHURST  — Ready to dress up as your favorite superhero or super-villain? It’s time to do your thing! And you can do it together with your loved ones, as many will be happy to know that family is at the heart of the Oakhurst Toy Anime Comic Con.

For starters, kids 12 and under get in free when you bring the gang to the Oakhurst Community Center for on Sunday, Mar. 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for this Ohana event. We first wrote about Tom “Ziggy” Star and his family last summer, when their successful event brought cosplay to Mariposa. Now, Ziggy and crew are back in the foothills and once again fired up to meet local fans of the genre.

“We encourage families to come out and share the experience of pop culture,” says Ziggy, always on the lookout for awesome geeks and nerds who love this kind of stuff.

Those in attendance are encouraged to dress to impress for the Cosplay (aka costume) Contest. All ages are invited to the costume contest, as well as to the event itself.

Emphasizing that the con is great for kids and making memories, Ziggy explains that the vending and merchandise are cool but the best part is the cosplay and costume contest, where participants dress up as their favorite characters and act it all out on stage.

Advance tickets are $5 for ages 13 and up, or admission is $6 at the door. Print out the flyer shown above for $1 off the door cost. That’s good only at the door, not for advance tix. Parking is free and cameras are welcome.

Who or what will you be?
