Hiker Killed In Fall From Half Dome Cables In Yosemite

YOSEMITE – A hiker suffered fatal injuries in a fall from the cables on Half Dome in Yosemite National Park yesterday.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 21, a male hiker was on the cable route with a companion when he slipped and fell to his death.

Yosemite National Park Rangers recovered his body at approximately 1 p.m. today.

No further details about the incident are available at this time.

This is the first fatality on the Half Dome cables since 2010, say park officials, and the first visitor fatality in 2018.

The identity of the deceased hiker is being withheld pending notification of the family.

Park officials say there were thunderstorms in the area at the time of the incident, which remains under investigation.
